This Saturday First Citizens Investment Services will host its 4th annual women’s financial well-being seminar at the Bay Gardens Hotel. The annual event will be held under the theme ‘Secrets of a Six Figure Woman’ and focuses on educating women about their financial situation and reveals strategies to achieve financial freedom. The seminar has over the years helped hundreds of women by giving them useful advice and First Citizens has continued to recognize the importance of this event.
Government agencies to receive training in water financing
Over 30 policymakers from ministries of public utilities and finance as well as from other government agencies, the private sector, NGOs, water and wastewater managers, legal practitioners and other stakeholders will be trained in water financing in a two-day workshop to be held in St Lucia on May 28 and 29, 2013.
SLASPA employees to benefit from a new industrial agreement
The National Workers Union has successfully negotiated another collective agreement. The Management of Saint Lucia Air & Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA) and officials from the National Workers Union (NWU) have satisfactorily concluded negotiations. Monthly and fortnightly paid employees with SLASPA within the NWU Bargaining Unit will benefit from an eight percent (8%) general wage increase, back pay from March 31st, 2012 and adjustments in a few wage scales.

An Internet exchange point would play a crucial role in facilitating the growth of St Lucia’s emerging digital economy, an international technology expert said.Bevil Wooding, an Internet strategist with US-based Packet Clearing House (PCH), said the Caribbean island already has a wealth of human resource talent in the information and communications technology sector.
Investigations continue into the death of a French national here
Police are searching for a pirogue and its driver in connection with a fatal boating accident that occurred at Reduit Beach.At approximately 7:20 am, Thursday, Officers attached to the Rodney bay Police Station and other police personnel including the Marine Police proceeded to the Reduit Beach. Whist there, they encountered the body of a male individual in the open expanse of the sea. He was later identified as 62 year old Jean Francois Gregoire, a French National on assignment with the Ministry of Education here in Saint Lucia.

Dr. Fletcher will speak on the subject “Strengthening Partnerships Towards Disaster Risk Reduction for Small Island Developing States”.

With the Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival now over, it’s a time of assessment for the Saint Lucia Tourist Board and affiliates as to its success, particularly in the rebranding. It has been a little over a week since Pigeon Island Jazz culminated the festival and while it’s too early for a thorough assessment of the impact, the Saint Lucia Tourist Board delivered a preliminary report that pinned the festival as one of the best ever. Director of Tourism, Louis Lewis says there were record numbers in attendance at all the shows.

Two persons including a young mother of a one year old baby, are now confirmed dead following a vehicular accident in Malgretoute, Micoud last evening. A man who stole cash and shoes from a villa over four years ago is now a free man after a High Court judge determined that his time served on remand was sufficient to atone for his crimes.Jason Henry was on remand at Bordelais Correctional Facility since December 2008 – for four years and five months — when he was charged with robbery.According to court records, on December 22, 2008, the complainant, Mathew Pissaro occupied a villa at the Marigot Villas in Marigot, Castries. At about 11:30 pm, he attended a barbeque with his family.

Emergency crews' search in the ruins left by the gigantic tornado that killed two dozen people in Oklahoma on Monday is almost over, say officials.Fire chief Gary Bird said he was "98% sure" there were no more survivors or bodies to recover from the rubble.Government meteorologists have meanwhile upgraded the tornado to the most powerful level of twister.
