The Saint Lucia Labour Party says it is horrified by comments made by Prime Minister Allen Chastanet on a local radio call-in programme where he said, that there was no budgetary allocation for laptops for students, by the Labour Government. The government indicated that this is why it cannot guarantee laptops to students for the year 2017.  The SLP argues that the laptops have always been a gift from friendly governments – Most recently the Taiwanese in 2016.  The SLP says, the UWP Government should have ensured that the gift was received again this year.  The opposition wants the government to explain how activities such the consultancies, contracts and audits which were not budgeted could have been provided for.  The SLP is calling on the government to re- instate the laptop initiative immediately to demonstrate that computer literacy for youth is a priority.
