This would involve pursuing the option of settlement where it is determined to be in the best interest of the state. Restructuring of the Civil Status Registry in order to restore public confidence in the Registry. The new AG is also vowing to put mechanisms in place to provide protection for members of the Judiciary as well as improving working conditions for Magistrates. The Attorney General and Minister of Justice will be engaged in an intensive period of orientation and strategic reflection in the coming weeks. It is his intention to make himself available to the media for an inaugural press conference soon after the completion of the orientation process.

Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting of a young man and the stabbing of another at Sandy Beach, Vieux-Fort.According to reports, about 10:00pm, on Sunday the 25thof July, 36-year-old, Winston Willie of Desruisseaux, was attending an open-air party at Sandy Beach, Vieux-Fort, when he was shot in the leg during an altercation involving a group of men. He was taken to the medical facility at the George Odlum Stadium where he is presently admitted in a stable condition. Another young man, Vivian Camille a.k.a “Davy”, 30 years old, also of Desruisseaux, was stabbed in the back while attending the party at Sandy Beach. He is presently admitted in a critical condition at the medical facility at the stadium. No one has been arrested in connection with these incidents and police are appealing to anyone who may have information to contact the Vieux-Fort Police Station at telephone number: 4563905 or 4563926. Gros Islet Police have confirmed that in the last few weeks there have been an unusually high number of sexual assault reports in the area. Although they would not say how many reports have been made, Police say the incidents seem concentrated in the area around Key Largo leading into Bonne Terre.The authorities are cautioning women against walking alone, especially at night and to make sure that doors and windows in their homes are well secured, particularly if they are alone in the house. The incidents of rape have occurred both in bushes and homes in Rodney Bay.ENDS================= Government is trying to inject economic life into Dennery by re-energizing the textile sector. Government through the Office of Private Sector Relations, OPSR has launched a Textile and Garments Project in Dennery, an initiative which has excited seamstresses previously employed by the now defunct Belle Fashions factory. The OPSR working through its STRIDE programme has developed a comprehensive project which will include Capacity Building and Skills Development in garment construction and Design including computer aided design and involve Equipment procurement, Marketing and promotion. Equipment has been secured by the OPSR for training in Garment design/construction, Soft furnishings/accessories, Technology and design for garment construction and Fabric/textile design and fabric decoration. Eighteen persons have been in training since June 22nd. Activities began formally Sunday with a church service, the opening of a Museum that highlights the achievements of successful nationals and the Rhythm and Spice Festival which was held at Beausejour Stadium. Yesterday the official opening of the US St. Lucian Overseas Association Convention and the Homecoming 2010 Partnership Fair, was held at the Beausejour Stadium. The Partnership Fair will continue until Thursday and involve seminars, business meetings and an awards evening at the Governor General’s residence. A Youth Summit is planned for Wednesday at the NIC Conference Centre. A Cultural Evening dubbed the Best of St. Lucia will be held that evening at the Pigeon Island National Landmark. A Charity Concert titled St. Lucians Then and Now is scheduled for Friday July 30th also at Pigeon Island.
