The SLHTA in an effort to improve the work of the Virtual Agricultural Clearing House has seen the need to create a sensitization tour.
This initiative will give farmers a chance to see firsthand what happens to their produce from the point of purchase till it gets served for consumption. By witnessing this, it will bring about a greater sense of appreciation for their contribution to the hospitality sector.
A face to face interaction between the two parties would allow for meaningful exchange of ideas, experiences, needs and expectations. Purchasing managers and chefs will have a unique opportunity to outline the issues faced with local produce and make recommendations for improvement.
The issue of minimal crop diversification among farmers and the continuous glut on the market of particular crops are areas which need to be improved upon and are items up for discussion during these visits.
This proposal will seek to strengthen the linkages between farmers and the hospitality industry.
