The Opposition St Lucia Labour Party’s point person on Education, Senator Guibion Ferdinand, has extended best wishes to teachers and students across the island on the occasion of the reopening of school. He noted that the second term of the academic school year is usually a hectic one with SBA deadlines, sports activities and Independence and Nobel laureate activities. He has urged students to manage their time wisely. Senator Ferdinand is also calling on the government and education officials to focus on the development of education sector and address some of the many challenges facing the sector. These, he says, include – the dilapidated state of many school buildings, appointments to vacant positions, and proper coordination of the school sports program specially the inter-sec competition. The Senator also highlighted the need for the Education Ministry to begin preparations, at the soonest, to ensure students will be ready to sit CXC, given that the exams will now be completed online.
