Saint Lucia’s Director of Corrections, Vern Guard has tendered his resignation, which will take effect on July 1, 2018. He has accepted a post as Superintendent of Prisons in the British Virgin Islands (BVI). He told local media that the move is what is best for his career and professional development. He was between contracts at Bordelais and decided to assess his options. On February 27, he officially retired from the public service. He noted that Bordelais has a fundamental issue with funding due to the country’s fiscal position. However he has expressed confidence that the men and women who serve at the facility will continue to create a good national security environment at the prison, under a new command.
